Piano Media is one of the global leaders in online subscription monetization solutions, digital audience development and online subscriber data analysis. We offer the most comprehensive digital subscription platforms in the world, backed by a world-class team of digital subscription marketing experts, data scientists and digital innovators. More publishers worldwide use our online monetization solutions than any other.

The company is grounded by the common-sense principle that those who invest in and create content should not be bystanders while others profit. We seek to enable news publishers to generate new revenues from readers and distributors for their digital content and, because it does not have to be a choice between one revenue source or the another, to restore the optimal mix of circulation and advertising revenue necessary to finance original reporting and editing. For print publishers, this move toward paid access online will also restore the value proposition of the print medium by eliminating the fully free online alternative.

Piano Media acquired Press+ from RR Donnelly in 2014. The company powers digital subscriptions for newspapers, magazines, online-only publishers and video producers around the world, including several of the largest U.S., Canadian, German and British newspaper publishing companies: Digital First Media, McClatchy, M. DuMont Schauberg, Agora A.S., GateHouse Media, Halifax Media, Postmedia, The Independent and DC Thomson.

Why Piano Is Different

Piano is not a typical technology/service provider. We have a strong belief in publishing, journalism and the importance of their roles in society. Here are three things that make us different:

Partnerships and long term revenue stream
We consider publishers that work with us much more than just customers. We believe in building long-lasting, deep relationships that allow us to support our partners over the long term. We have a unique perspective on the publishing industry that enables us to provide a new revenue stream that does not cannibalize others. Piano takes care to not impact traffic or advertising revenue. Our partners earn between 10-50% of their online revenue from paid content.

All elements of paid content
Piano is a complete solution provider – paid content is a complicated topic, not just a technology problem. We believe a strong partnership and a complete solution is required. To successfully implement paid content strategies, we address all the elements involved: technology, content, marketing, analytics, support and sales channels.

The team
Our team consists of former journalists, publishing experts, technology experts, business analysts and content experts. We have internationally relevant experience enabling us to supply solid payment technology and support publishers on the ground with their decisions on paid content strategy, marketing, analytics and content management.
